I have always been a fan of old movies. And some weeks ago when we couldn’t decide what to watch, Hitchcock came up as an idea.
And don’t we all like his work: The Birds, Vertigo and Psycho are absolute classics. Blonde women with red lips and overly bold eyebrows fainting dramatically when presented to unspeakable horror. You got to love the 1950s!
But wait – does that really sound so old-fashioned? Alright, no one really faints anymore but the style of these ladies? I think make-up wise….the 50s are totally back!
Look at these female leads from Hitchcock classics and see for yourself!
Last week I took a little photo tour with the amazing photgrapher Theresia Pauls. Having some red on me that day, she matched me with the perfect lip colour by Dior.
I have always been a fan of their lipsticks and glosses but was kind of hesitant to use orange undertones. I thought this colour would go much better with dark hair but I quite liked this one. This bold look is something that I probably wouldn’t normally wear for daytime but it’s perfect for a night out.
The rest of Theresia’s photos are coming soon! Meanwhile you can check her out and book her via tpauls.com
1 / Marina Miracle Herbal Face Oil: Ever since I ran out of my beloved Trilogy Rosehip Oil, I was looking for a good replacement available in Norway. Marina Miracle is a Stavanger based company that produces organic skincare with highly effective ingredients. I have been using the face oil for about two weeks now and my skin feels soft and looks even. Best face oil ever!
2 / Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer: Smashbox primer really works! It smoothes out the skin texture and makes foundation last so much longer. I find it works best if you wait for ten minutes before putting your foundation on.
3 / Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation: This has been a life-saver on rainy days (and we had a lot of them recently) because this Bobbi Brown foundation is waterproof. It goes on smoothly and lasts all day. I don’t know what would happen if you jumped into a pool but in wet weather conditions it definitely stays put.
4 / Moroccanoil Treatment: I told you about this hair oil before and my opinion hasn’t changed. Although I think nothing can truly repair damaged hair, this treatment leaves your hair shinier than ever and prevents hair from splitting more. You can use it on dry or damp hair.
Hey guys! I did some research and found the best new beauty products for this fall. I think they all sound quite exciting. Have you tried any of these yet?
1 / Tom Ford cream colour for eyes: An ultra-pigmented and highly reflective formula combined with antioxidant ingredients for a long-lasting and ultra-smooth finish. This is a limited edition and will be available soon for around 35 Euros.
2 / Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Eye-Opening Serum: In case you have read my reviews on other products (here and here), you know that I am a big fan of Kiehl’s. So of course I am dying to try this new product which claims to have an eye-opening effect and gives you a more refined skin texture around the eyes. Available for around 45 Euros.
3 / Dolce & Gabbana Aurealux: Aurea = gold, lux = light? (Yes, I remember my Latin ) You can guess what it’s supposed to do: It gives the skin a radiant appearance and includes the most advanced skin care technologies based on the Gold Flavo-Silk Tricomplex™ consisting of italian olive oil extract, gold silk sericin and vitamin B3. I have never tried skincare by D&G, so I don’t know if it actually does the job but it surely looks very luxurious and I found quite an impressive review here, but at a price of around 100 Euros for the cream I think I’ll have to pass on that.
4 / Estée Lauder Perfectionist Make-Up: This new foundation promises to instantly brighten and perfect the complexion due to the age-defying Perfectionist serum technology. It also works over time by making the skin look more youthful and hydrated. You can achieve medium to full-coverage with a satin finish and it has SPF 25, which is always a plus. You can get it in 21 shades for about 35 Euros.
5 / Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush: You use it with a cleanser to remove make-up, dirt and oil. It claims to purify the skin due to the sonic action when using it for one minute once or twice per day. I don’t know how it compares to the more famous Clarisonic but for those of you who are looking for a cheaper alternative (around 70 Euros), you might want to give it a try.
One of the best things about living abroad for me is exploring new brands I had never heard of before.
Although I had dropped in Make Up Store Stavanger a few times before I had never actually bought anything. It is a Swedish brand that produces make-up and skincare. I like this shop because of the plain black design and the wide colour range you can find on everything there.
This week I picked up two amazing products from Make Up Store. An eyeshadow that I use as an eyebrow powder and a lipstick, that looks pinky transparent with glitter but actually turns out to be a coral shade on the lips. It can be worn over lipstick for a bit of sparkle or alone for a hint of colour and a nourishing effect.
Do you know Make Up Store? What are your favourite products?
I know October has been around for three days already but some of my recent favourites I didn’t discover before late September and I wanted to test them long enough to actually give you guys a good review.
For months I had heard bloggers and Youtubers rave about Real Techniques brushes and was very keen to try them myself. Finally I found a shop that sells them here in Norway.
I got an angled foundation brush and have been using it for about two weeks.
So is it worth all the hype? That’s a clear yes!!!
I have tried it with different foundations: Sheer and high coverage, BB Cream and cream compact foundation. Whatever you use, it gives you a flawless high definition finish that makes any foundation undetectable on the skin. It’s easy to add many layers of foundation with this brush and still achieve a natural look.
Have you tried the Real Techniques bruhes yet? What is your favourite one?
I used to be obsessed with primers but then for some reason haven’t used them in about two years. This one made me go back: The L’oreal Paris Nude Magique Blur Cream. The “Instant Flawless Perfector”, as it says on the bottle, claims to blur pores and refine the skin texture.
The Blur cream doesn’t provide any coverage but makes your skin look good in any light. My skin is in very good condition at the moment, so sometimes I use it without any other product on top. If you suffer from breakouts or other imperfections like discoloration, I still think the Blur Cream will do the job for you if you just add your favourite foundation, BB Cream or powder. If you do use a product on top of it, make sure you don’t apply too much of the Blur Cream as it is so smooth it will make anything else just slide off.
Have you tried the Blur Cream yet? What is your go to primer?
And another month is coming to an end. Can’t believe it’s almost September already. Here in Norway the light is changing a little now, the sun is lower in the sky and the air you inhale is slightly more crisp than a few weeks ago.
It’s not too bad after all – summer here has been amazingly hot and I spent quite a lot of time on the beach this year. And when I lost my sunglasses yesterday, I decided that it might be time to embrace fall now.
But not before showing you my favourite products of this month.
This Face Sculptor by Isadora includes a bronzer, blusher and highlighter. All you need for contouring and highlighting your face. As described on the back of this product, you apply the blusher on the apples of your cheeks, the bronzer on the outer parts of your forehead, sides of your nose, underneath your cheekbones, chin and (if needed) the jawline. You highlight your forehead, cheekbones, chin, cupid’s bow, back of your nose and brow bones (I think highlighter only makes sense underneath your eyes when it’s not shimmery, so I don’t use it there as advised in the picture). The highlighter photographs perfectly and gives you a nice glow when using flash.
I used to use this mascara when I was a teenager and then for some reason neglected it for years. I recently re-discovered this L’oreal classic and can tell you it’s amazing. The Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black doesn’t only give you voluminous but also very long lashes. That’s all you can ask of a mascara.
The Make Up For Ever HD Foundation I was given by a person who didn’t like it at all. I was very grateful because I had wanted to try it for years. I actually like it a lot but then again every skin is different. I think it blends in very well, is invisible and looks flawless in photos. The coverage is buildable and ranges from sheer to almost full coverage.
There is nothing like a classic red on your nails. The Mavala nail polish in 185 Moscow is a timeless colour, it’s easy to apply, long-lasting and you only need one coat.
Organic Rosehip Oil is Miranda Kerr’s secret to glowing skin. I had wanted to try it for a while before I got it at John Lewis in Cambridge. They ship world wide though! The Trilogy version of this skin oil really works wonders on dry skin. But if you have oily to combination skin it doesn’t leave your skin greasy or shiny at all. I know what I’m talking about because I have dry skin in winter and rather oily skin in summer. I started using it again this month cause my skin was a bit flaky after sun bathing.
This summer I really love bright pink and coral shades on my lips. My latest discovery is the Soft Sensation Colour & Care Lipstick by Astor. I wear it in 403 – Attractive Coral. It is super moisturizing and highly pigmented. The best thing about it is the SPF 20 that protects the lips from sun damage. The colour is really intense, so if you want just a hint of colour, you can lightly dab it onto your lips or dab away with a tissue after applying.
When summer comes around you don’t want to spend too much time on getting ready and doing your make-up. You just want to get out to enjoy the sun – and of course still look your best!
I found some products that are just perfect for this season.
I have been a Kiehls fan for quite a while now and these are my latest discoveries. The BB cream has just the right amount of coverage to let your skin tone shine through and still hide imperfections. I don’t like wearing heavy foundations in summer cause when you tan, your skin tone changes and you still want a good colour match for every day.
The Creme de Corps is perfect after sun bathing. It leaves your skin hydrated and soft and has a lovely scent.
Again two amazing products for beach days. I love the hair oil because it prevents my hair from splitting. You need that little bit of extra care when your hair is exposed to salt water and sun all the time. You only need 3 pumps and work it into your wet hair.
The gel like polish by Guerlain is a top coat that makes your nails a little stronger without looking to thick. You can wear it alone or as a top coat over your regular nail polish and gives your nails a shiny look. Goodbye brittle nails!
High Beam by Benefit is an amazing highlighter that reflects sunlight and adds a bit of a glow to your tanned skin. Lightly dab it onto your cheek bones and below the eyebrows for a shiny finish.
As I said before, heavy make-up is nothing for hot summer days. Maybelline Baby Lips is a lip balm with a hint of colour. I wear it in Cherry Me.
Before I moved from Germany to Norway I had a big farewell party at my place. My four suitcases were packed and it was less than 48 hours until my flight. A couple of days before that people had asked me what presents they could possibly give to a person with overweight luggage and who had just tried to get rid of as many possessions as possible. Maybe no presents at all I would say? But my friends are persisent. Something light and useful was on their mind. And once I actually started thinking about it – useful and light? – it didn’t take me long to figure it out. My all time make-up favourites were almost used up and so I made a wish. You can see my best friends from Mac in the photo below.
It’s the Select Moisture Cover Concealer (I’m an NW 15) and the Lip pencil in Soar.
Both products last for ages and are always in my purse. After I had spent years trying to find the perfect concealer, I stumbled upon the Select Moisturecover. It’s invisible, lightweight but still offers enough coverage to hide dark under eye circles and skin imperfections. The trick is to layer it (thin layers!) until you achieve the perfect result.
The lip pencil in Soar has a perfect colour for anybody. I naturally have very red lips and it almost looks like my actual lip colour when I wear it. If your lips are on the lighter side, you can simply use less pressure to get a perfect result. The colour is just so natural that it will suit any skin tone.
I have to tell you that my friends got me more than just this in the end. They actually gave me framed photos, scrapbooks, video messages and long letters. My already overweight luggage was so heavy that I could hardly drag it along from the car to the check-in counter. But at least I have the full package now: Useful light things and lovely memories. Amazing friends, huh?
So I heard a lot about Baume de Rose by the French cosmetic brand by Terry. At a price of around 40 Euros it is quite expensive for a simple lip balm. But this is the whole point – other reviewers and the brand itself claim that it is not your regular lip care product.
After trying it at Schnitzler, a store in Düsseldorf, Germany, I was convinced. It goes on easily and gives you the softest lips ever! A little goes a long way. Looking milky pink in the glass, it is almost transparent on the lips and shiny but not sparkly.
While I was applying lip products about every two hours in the past, I have to use Baume de Rose only twice a day to keep my lips smooth and soft. I do more often though cause I just love the rose scent and the subtle shine on my lips.
Have you tried by Terry’s Baume de Rose yet? What are your thoughts?
