This weekend has been the coziest ever! Hung out at a friend’s beautiful “home”, walked around a lake and ate brownies while the rain was pounding against the window.
What did you get up to? I hope you had a lovely weeekend as well! xx
For years I have been avoiding glitter and sparkle on both clothes and jewelry. But these rings made me go back. When I saw them at H&M I just had to get them. As I have mentioned before, I hardly ever wear real silver and gold as I like to match my jewelry with my seasonal wardrobe and try something new every now and then.
Despite the sparkly bits on these rings they look quite subtle on the hand even if you wear all three of them at the same time.
As many of you know already, I am a big fan of all kinds of leggings. My latest addition to my collection are these back leggings with faux leather details from Calzedonia. Here I combined them with a classic white blouse and semi-high ankle boots. But what I like about these pants is that you could also wear them with a plain T-shirt or an oversized sweater and sneakers.
1 / Get cozy! Light up some incense sticks or scented candles, sit on a fur rug and enjoy a hot cup of tea! When it’s dark and grey outside, it’s more important than ever to be in nice and cozy surroundings.
2 / Read a good book! I think we all have a book on the shelf that we wanted to read all summer but were too busy because of the good weather outside. Now is the perfect time for a good thriller by the fireplace.
3 / Get out there! As nice as it is to cozy up at home… Try to catch every sun ray you can get. Daylight makes your body produce vitamin D and keeps you in a good mood.
4 / Eat your vitamins! To keep your strength up in that cold wind outside, be sure to boost your immune system with some healthy food.
5 / Revive your DVD collection! Remember that one series you always used to watch back at school? Dig out your old DVDs and enjoy your evenings with some classics!
What are your favourite autumn activities?
1 / Marina Miracle Herbal Face Oil: Ever since I ran out of my beloved Trilogy Rosehip Oil, I was looking for a good replacement available in Norway. Marina Miracle is a Stavanger based company that produces organic skincare with highly effective ingredients. I have been using the face oil for about two weeks now and my skin feels soft and looks even. Best face oil ever!
2 / Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer: Smashbox primer really works! It smoothes out the skin texture and makes foundation last so much longer. I find it works best if you wait for ten minutes before putting your foundation on.
3 / Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation: This has been a life-saver on rainy days (and we had a lot of them recently) because this Bobbi Brown foundation is waterproof. It goes on smoothly and lasts all day. I don’t know what would happen if you jumped into a pool but in wet weather conditions it definitely stays put.
4 / Moroccanoil Treatment: I told you about this hair oil before and my opinion hasn’t changed. Although I think nothing can truly repair damaged hair, this treatment leaves your hair shinier than ever and prevents hair from splitting more. You can use it on dry or damp hair.
Another week begins after an amazing weekend with one of my best friends from Germany. And I wonder if it will ever stop raining again. The good thing about this weather is that you can do all the cozy stuff, like having tea at cafés or watching the big waves while walking along the coast.
I think the moment these pictures were taken was the only minute without rain during this entire weekend.
Last weekend I had an amazing time on a cabin trip to the most southern point of Norway, Lindesnes , where you get the most beautiful view. At this spot Norway’s first lighthouse was lit in 1665. The lighthouse that you see in the pictures was built in 1915 and you can walk all the way up there to have a view of the whole area.
The name Lindesnes is Old Norwegian and means “Where the land sinks into the sea” and on stormy autumn days it actually looks like that because of the high waves.
My favourite season has always been summer but then there is something about autumn that makes everything look more beautiful. I like the orange leaves and the golden light when the sun sets in the evening. Now is the best time to take long walks and inhale the fresh air before it gets really freezing and dark. The best place to be is the beach around this time, especially in good weather conditions.
But why is this season such a good time for long beach walks?
1. Healing powers of sea air:
If you look back in time, you can see that doctors have been prescribing patients trips to health resorts by the sea for centuries. So there must be something curing in the air around the sea. It might be the sea salt or simply the fact that being on a beautiful beach makes you happy and therefore feel better in general.
2. Boost your immune system:
Especially during this season the strong wind, salty air and the sun still being around for several hours per day, is a challenge for the body. Your immune system is growing stronger in these conditions – and in almost non-polluted sorrundings.
3. Sun equals Vitamin D
Being in the sun a lot makes your body produce vitamn D, which is said to keep you in a good mood and make your bones stay strong and healthy. Usually we lack Vitamin D in winter and that can make you feel depressed and tired. So we better soak up the sun for as long as we can before the dark season comes around.
On autumn days there is nothing better than hot drinks. And why not give some of the old classics an exciting touch by adding your favourite sweets?
In general I always go for white options in the sweet department: White chocolate, white desserts topped with white sauces…you get the idea. And three white ingredients mixed together – you can imagine what joy it brings me
But no matter what sweet preferences you have, I think you will definititely enjoy this one:
Hey guys! I did some research and found the best new beauty products for this fall. I think they all sound quite exciting. Have you tried any of these yet?
1 / Tom Ford cream colour for eyes: An ultra-pigmented and highly reflective formula combined with antioxidant ingredients for a long-lasting and ultra-smooth finish. This is a limited edition and will be available soon for around 35 Euros.
2 / Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Eye-Opening Serum: In case you have read my reviews on other products (here and here), you know that I am a big fan of Kiehl’s. So of course I am dying to try this new product which claims to have an eye-opening effect and gives you a more refined skin texture around the eyes. Available for around 45 Euros.
3 / Dolce & Gabbana Aurealux: Aurea = gold, lux = light? (Yes, I remember my Latin ) You can guess what it’s supposed to do: It gives the skin a radiant appearance and includes the most advanced skin care technologies based on the Gold Flavo-Silk Tricomplex™ consisting of italian olive oil extract, gold silk sericin and vitamin B3. I have never tried skincare by D&G, so I don’t know if it actually does the job but it surely looks very luxurious and I found quite an impressive review here, but at a price of around 100 Euros for the cream I think I’ll have to pass on that.
4 / Estée Lauder Perfectionist Make-Up: This new foundation promises to instantly brighten and perfect the complexion due to the age-defying Perfectionist serum technology. It also works over time by making the skin look more youthful and hydrated. You can achieve medium to full-coverage with a satin finish and it has SPF 25, which is always a plus. You can get it in 21 shades for about 35 Euros.
5 / Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush: You use it with a cleanser to remove make-up, dirt and oil. It claims to purify the skin due to the sonic action when using it for one minute once or twice per day. I don’t know how it compares to the more famous Clarisonic but for those of you who are looking for a cheaper alternative (around 70 Euros), you might want to give it a try.
Today I tried a life-changing new recipe: One Pot Pasta.
Instead of making the sauce in one pot and the pasta in another, you simply mix everything together right from the start and cook until you get a creamy sauce, which takes about 15 minutes. I know 15 minutes sounds kind of shocking if you are like me and love your pasta al dente but the photos on Berries & Passion looked really convincing.
And I can tell you, it is absolutely delicious! I am even thinking about having this dish every night for at least a week, just with different ingredients – and you actually could make it with any kind of meet, fish, seafood and vegetables you have in your fridge.
Tonight I chose this:
My closet is full of summer dresses and it is definitely getting too cold to wear them. Since the weather wasn’t too good today I spent quite a bit of time looking for some going-out dresses for this season on asos.com.
These are my favourites:
All dresses available at Asos.
1 / Asos
2 / Warehouse
3 / Paper Dolls
4 / Asos
5 / TFNC
6 / Closet
As of today I can call myself owner of this legendary beauty product: Moroccan Oil hair treatment.
I wanted to try it for ages since I heard so many good things about it.
So far I only used it once and I can already tell that my hair is shinier than ever. And I can tell you it’s seriously damaged due to years of using hair dye and my beloved ghd!
I hope it will continue to work wonders for me. Will keep you guys posted!
Have you tried Maroccan Oil yet and can you recommend any other products from their range?
I am just sitting outside in the sun reading “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. I have to finish the last pages because tonight I am going to watch the movie.
The story revolves around the main character Nick Dunne whose wife goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. The novel made it to the New York Times Beststeller list soon after its release in 2012. No wonder – this psychological thriller leaves you tense from page one.
Have you read “Gone Girl” yet or watched the movie? What did you think?
…and by that I am not only referring to the brand my sweater is from. Everything actually is hunky dory on a sunny autumn day like today We had lunch outside and it was so warm that I wished I was wearing a t-shirt instead. I wouldn’t mind a little more of that summer weather next week.
I hope you guys had a sunny Sunday as well. xx
One of the best things about living abroad for me is exploring new brands I had never heard of before.
Although I had dropped in Make Up Store Stavanger a few times before I had never actually bought anything. It is a Swedish brand that produces make-up and skincare. I like this shop because of the plain black design and the wide colour range you can find on everything there.
This week I picked up two amazing products from Make Up Store. An eyeshadow that I use as an eyebrow powder and a lipstick, that looks pinky transparent with glitter but actually turns out to be a coral shade on the lips. It can be worn over lipstick for a bit of sparkle or alone for a hint of colour and a nourishing effect.
Do you know Make Up Store? What are your favourite products?
I know October has been around for three days already but some of my recent favourites I didn’t discover before late September and I wanted to test them long enough to actually give you guys a good review.
So… here they are
I think I haven’t been that obsessed with something pink since I was eight. The Treaclemoon bodylotions in “Iced Strawberry Dream” and “The Raspberry Kiss” smell just as sweet as they look like.
But don’t get fooled by the rather artificial looking colours. The scent is really natural and subtle on the skin. The products are vegan and not tested on animals which is another plus.
I absolutely love both of them but I wouldn’t recommend the bodylotions if you have very dry skin. For this season they are perfect for me but in dry winter air I will definitely need a little more intensive care for my skin.
Here in Norway there seems to be a time in autumn when wearing a jacket is too warm and wearing just a top is too cold. For weeks I have been leaving the house with a coat on and after a little while it got so warm I had to take it off… only to find myself freezing in no time again. What’s up with the weather here? It might be the air or simply the fact that I mainly seem to walk uphill around here, but I definitely needed to do something about it.
The solution to my little problem came in a shopping bag from Bik Bok. I got some cardigans which I found to be a good match for almost any kind of weather you can get around this season in Norway. They are really comfortable and – most importantly – not scratchy at all.
“Si” has been my favourite perfume for a while now. After using the Eau de Parfum for several months I have now discovered the Eau de Parfum Intense version.
The scent lasts much longer and is still noticable after many hours. Actually there are quite a few fragrances that come in an intense version. So if you can find it for your go to fragrance, I recommend you go for it. It’s a little more expensive but definitely worth it, as a little goes a long way.
Have you tried “Si” by Armani yet? What is your favourite perfume?
One store I really miss here in Norway is Breuninger – a big department store located in my hometown Düsseldorf and some other German cities. Can’t wait to go home soon and do some shopping
